AVN paper is published!
Yijun Qi’s new manuscript, “Transport of Artificial Virus-like Nanocarriers (AVN) through Intestinal Monolayer via Microfold Cells“, has been published on Nanoscale. It is collaboration with Tianjian Tong @ Prof. Chenxu Yu’s lab. In this study, inspired by mammalian orthoreovirus (MRV) transport into gut mucosal lymphoid tissue via Microfold cells (M cells), artificial virus-like nanocarriers (AVN), consisting of gold nanocages functionalized with the σ1 protein from mammalian reovirus (MRV), were tested as an effective oral vaccine delivery vehicle targeting M cells. AVN was shown to have a significantly higher transport compared to other experimental groups across mouse organoid monolayers containing M cells. These findings suggest that AVN has the potential to be an M cell-specific oral vaccine/drug delivery vehicle. Congratulations!
Brittney’s new manuscript
Brittney Reding’s new manuscript, “Manipulate Intestinal Organoids with Niobium Carbide Nanosheets“, has been published on Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A. In this study, Nb2C nanosheets were prepared by spark plasma sintering and HF etching. The results show overall potential benefits of placing low concentration Nb2C nanosheets in intestinal systems to protect and stimulate cell survivability when undergoing various treatments. Brittney is an undergradate research who has worked in Wang Lab since 2018. Congratulations!
Zahra published book chapter
Zahra’s new book chapter, “Skin Tissue Engineering with Nanostructured Materials“, has been published on Imaging Technologies and Transdermal Delivery in Skin Disorders. This timely book by Wiley‐VCH covers the latest understanding about today’s major skin disorders, the development of imaging technologies for skin diagnosis, and the applications of micro/nano-technologies for the treatment of skin complications. Congratulations!

NIH/NIGMS Exploratory R21 funded!
Working with Dr. Mansell (PI), Dr. Wang has been awarded the National Institutes of Health (NIH)/ National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) Exploratory Research R21. Wang Lab and Mansell Lab will work together to co-culture engineered probiotic bacteria to accurately monitor and actively influence the development of intestinal epithelial cells in 3D culture. Congratulation!
